Latest short film I completed this year is a bitter Cinderella story for China.

Ye Xian is Cinderella in an ancient Chinese story (850 AD). The film is set in modern China and questions the value put on women, when girls are aborted, killed and neglected. The shortage of local women feeds an illegal trade, forcing foreign trafficked girls into marriage and prostitution.

The film questions the value of women in todays China and how it has changed over centuries, as intriguing comparisons are drawn between the ancient practice of binding women's feet to a highly prized “three inch golden lotus” and the ideal of the Cinderella shoe.

Through my work  I have been examining and questioning the perception of freedom, pain, geographical location and ancestry in contrast with socio-political systems. My work often reveals the uncomfortable truth via the poetic beauty of an object or a silent image.
